Dr. Henry Roman

Executive Director

     Dr. Roman graduated from Pueblo Central in 1965 and from Southern Colorado State College in 1969 with a degree in math. He received his Masters Degree in math from Louisiana State University and his doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Northern Colorado in 1982.

     He began his teaching career with Pueblo School District No. 60 in 1969 as a math teacher at Pueblo South High School. After just a few short years at South High he became an administrator at Pueblo East High and Roncalli Middle School and at South High School as an assistant principal. Eventually he became principal at Risley Middle School for four years before becoming the Executive Director of Secondary Education.

     He continued his administrative career in District No. 60 as Deputy Superintendent and finally as Superintendent in 1992 before retiring in 1999. At the present time, Dr. Roman is the Interim Executive Director at Cesar Chavez Academy and Dolores Huerta Preparatory High School. Since retirement he has served as Interim Dean of the Pueblo School for Arts and Sciences, Interim Superintendent of Pueblo School District No. 70 and the Interim Superintendent of Hanover School District.

     Dr. Roman has been married to Anna for 26 years. They have two children, Vanessa and JR.

Dr. Roman is excited about the opportunity to be of assistance at CCA and DHPH. He is fully aware of the many challenges facing the school but believes strongly that the students, parents and staff have worked hard for their schools and deserve a chance to make their schools successful once again.

 

Rose Benitez

Principal

Dolores Huerta Preparatory High

     Rose was born August 16, 1977 in Pueblo, Colorado. Rose graduated from Central High School in 1996. In 2001 she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Sociology from the University of Southern Colorado, where she graduated cum laude and earned an academic award for excellence. Rose earned her Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership from Adam’s State College in 2009. In July of 2009 Rose received her Initial Principal license from the State of Colorado.

     Rose was married in March of 2001 to an extremely handsome man named Miles Benitez. In March of 2002, she gave birth to her first beautiful daughter, Marianna. Her second beautiful daughter Maya was born in November of 2007.

     In 2004 Rose began teaching social studies and Spanish at Dolores Huerta Preparatory High. She has sponsored numerous clubs and extra-curricular activities including; M.E.Ch.A., Stugo, Junior and Senior Class Club. In March of 2010 Rose was named Interim Principal at Dolores Huerta Preparatory High. The following July, she was named Principal for the 2010-2011 school year. Rose continues her career at Dolores Huerta because she believes in the mission and vision of the high school, sending students to college early and increasing their academic achievement.
