Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. I can't log in with last year's username and password.

  2. Teachers' passwords are reset every year. Try using your default password -- but don't forget to change it when you get to your PowerTeacher Start page.

  3. How can I enter an Incomplete as a student's final grade?

  4. Use the Manual Over-ride feature in your Web Gradebook. Double-click the final grade for the student. The Score Inspector will appear. Click in the box labeled "Manual Over-ride." Change the student's grade to I and submit. CAUTION!! After a manual over-ride, the grade will be static until you turn it off. When the student completes his/her work, you must reset the gradebook so it can calculate the final grade.

  5. What if a student's grade changes AFTER the final deadline?

  6. Any changes to your gradebook after the "store date" must be reported to your principal and the PowerSchool Coordinator.

  7. Why is a student's grade on the weekly grade check or mid-term different from the grade I see in my gradebook?

  8. If a student's grade on their report card or weekly grade check is not the same as what you're SEEING in your Web Gradebook, you're probably looking at the wrong term. Be sure the drop-down menu right under the Scoresheet tab has "Q1" selected -- NOT "Y1." That should solve the problem. Check out this video for more information.

  9. I just received a student, transferring in from a different teacher's class. How do I get his/her grades?

  10. A student's previous grades remain in the original class. If you need to transfer those grades to YOUR class, the previous teacher (or an administrator) will need to print out his/her grades and assignments. You will then need to enter them manually.

  11. Do we need to have assignments attached to all weighted categories for the math to work out accurately for the final grade? For example, if one of the categories is Projects, worth 40% of the grade, what happens at the end of the term if teachers have not assigned any major projects? Or, what happens if a teacher only has one or two Project assignments? Will this negatively affect the final grade average?

  12. The percentage that isn't used will get split between the remaining categories. Here is a simplified example:
    Homework Weight: 40%
    Test Weight: 40%
    Participation Weight: 20%
Assume that the final Homework grade is 80, the final Test grade is N/A because there were no assignments, and the final Participation grade is 70.
Being that there are no Test grades then the calculation looks something like this:

    80 x .4 = 32
    70 x .2 = 14

32 + 14 = 46 (this is total points earned after category grades are multiplied by category weights)
    .4 + .2 = .6 (This is the total weight being USED)

    46 / .6 * 100 = 76.66667 (Student's final grade will be 77%).
